Authorities, who offered medical assistance, stated the dispute originated from a disagreement over firecrackers and a cow.
Tensions flared in Maula Garh village, Chandausi, Sambhal, as a group of women blocked a key road, alleging police inaction following an assault by neighbors. The impromptu protest on the Chandausi-Bahjoi route disrupted traffic for approximately 20 minutes, drawing immediate police attention.
The protesting women claimed they were assaulted by neighbors on Diwali night, Monday, and that their subsequent complaint to the Chandausi Kotwali police on Tuesday morning had yielded no action. Sunita, one of the alleged victims, identified the accused as Manoj, Vinod, Aadesh, and Tarun, among others, citing a long-standing animosity. She stated that her mother Morakali, along with Shashiwala, Anju, and herself, were beaten and injured when the group reportedly attacked their home.
Responding swiftly to the blockade, a team from Dial 112, Chandausi Kotwali police, and senior officials including CO Manoj Kumar and Kotwali SHO Mohit Baliyan, arrived at the scene. They engaged with the women, attempting to de-escalate the situation and offering medical assistance. Despite their efforts, the women, visibly agitated, dispersed without further communication after clearing the road.
Kotwali SHO Mohit Baliyan, however, presented a different account, stating the dispute originated from a disagreement over firecrackers. He explained that the women had tied their cow in a public alley, and when other residents requested them to move it indoors, they refused, leading to an escalation of the conflict. Baliyan added that police had advised the women to undergo a medical examination, but they reportedly declined.
