Deoria/Balia witnessed a dramatic rescue on Diwali morning as quick-thinking fishermen saved a 40-year-old man who had jumped from the Bhagalpur bridge into the Saryu River. The incident, reportedly stemming from a family dispute, unfolded early on the festive day, averting a potential tragedy thanks to the swift actions of local fishermen.
Rajendra Yadav, son of Ram Shringar Yadav and a resident of Mudiyari village in Balia’s Maniyar police station area, left his home stating he was going to the market. He then proceeded to the Bhagalpur bridge over the Saryu River, where he parked his motorcycle and leapt into the waters below.
Fortunately, a group of fishermen, actively engaged in their daily catch from their boats, witnessed Yadav’s desperate act. Without hesitation, they immediately moved towards him, successfully pulling him out of the river. The fishermen promptly alerted the Ubhan Police station in Balia district.
Upon arrival, police informed Yadav’s family and, noting his critical condition, transported him to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Belthara Road. Ubhan Inspector Sanjay Shukla confirmed the incident, stating that the man was rescued by fishermen and is currently undergoing treatment. While his life has been saved, his condition remains delicate as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the leap.
