Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath underscored the profound significance of cattle (‘Gauvansh’) as the bedrock of India’s prosperity during his observance of Govardhan Puja at the Gorakhnath Temple. Performing the ritualistic worship of cows and the deity, CM Yogi extended felicitations to the state’s populace, advocating for widespread engagement with government initiatives aimed at cow protection and welfare.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister elaborated on Uttar Pradesh’s multi-pronged strategy to safeguard and nurture its cattle population. He highlighted the ‘Govardhan Yojana’ as a transformative program that converts cow dung into valuable resources like biogas and ethanol, thereby not only promoting environmental sustainability but also boosting farmers’ incomes. This initiative, he noted, epitomizes the symbiotic relationship between tradition and modern economic empowerment, aligning with India’s agrarian heritage.
CM Yogi detailed several targeted welfare schemes. Currently, the state government subsidizes the upkeep of 16 lakh cattle. Programs like the ‘Nirashrit Gauvansh Sthal’ provide ₹1500 per month per animal for abandoned cattle. The ‘Sahbhagita Yojana’ encourages farmers to care for four such animals, offering ₹6000 monthly. Additionally, a unique scheme supports malnourished families by providing a milk-yielding cow along with ₹1500 monthly for its care, fostering both animal welfare and human well-being. These comprehensive efforts, CM Yogi affirmed, are pivotal for robust rural development and national self-reliance.
