Defence Minister Rajnath Singh affirmed the unified mission of India’s Army and Police for national security, despite their distinct platforms. Speaking on Police Commemoration Day, he leveraged his unique experience as both Home and Defence Minister to laud their coordinated efforts. Singh highlighted significant progress in eradicating Naxalism, transforming affected regions into development corridors, and committed to its complete elimination by March 2025, strengthening India’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision.
Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently underscored the indivisible nature of national security, asserting that despite their distinct operational platforms, India’s armed forces and police share a singular, unwavering mission: safeguarding the nation. Addressing the Police Commemoration Day event, Singh drew upon his unique vantage point, having served as both Union Home Minister, closely observing police functions, and now as Defence Minister, witnessing the military’s activities. He emphasized that as India navigates ‘Amrit Kaal’ towards the ‘Viksit Bharat’ goal by 2047, balancing internal and external security challenges becomes paramount.
The Minister lauded the police force for not only fulfilling their official duties but also for their profound moral commitment, leading to a visible increase in public trust. He highlighted their relentless efforts against internal threats, particularly Naxalism, which has long plagued several regions. Singh proudly declared that through the concerted efforts of the police, CRPF, BSF, other paramilitary forces, and local administration, the tide has turned. Once notorious ‘Red Corridors’ are now transforming into vibrant development corridors, witnessing the construction of essential infrastructure like roads, hospitals, and educational institutions.
Rajnath Singh affirmed the government’s resolute commitment to completely eradicate Naxalism. He announced that the number of Naxal-affected districts has significantly dwindled, with a firm target to eliminate the menace entirely by March 2025. Reflecting on past oversights, he acknowledged that the police’s crucial contributions were long unrecognised by society. However, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the establishment of the National Police Memorial in 2018, coupled with provision of modern equipment and facilities, has significantly bolstered the force, ensuring they are well-equipped to face future challenges.
