Sirsa’s Sweeping Crackdown: Food Safety Department Intensifies Drive Against Adulterated Ghee, Major Brands Under Scrutiny

By Oct 22, 2025

The Food Safety Department in Sirsa has launched a major crackdown on the sale of adulterated ghee, collecting over 15 samples from Sirsa and Dabwali, including popular brands like Amul and Vita. This intensified drive aims to safeguard consumer health, with officials vowing strict action against offenders. Sampling extends to major food chains, underscoring a commitment to quality.

Sirsa, Haryana: Amid escalating complaints regarding the sale of counterfeit and adulterated ghee, the Food Safety Department in Sirsa has initiated a robust and widespread investigation across the district. Acting on the Commissioner’s directives, the department has significantly ramped up its sampling activities, collecting over 15 ghee samples from various establishments in Sirsa and Dabwali over the past two days.

This intensified campaign targets not only local vendors but also prominent national brands. Samples have been meticulously gathered from packaged ghee products of well-known names such as Saras, Vita, Amul, Siftti, and Mother Dairy. These samples have been dispatched to laboratories for comprehensive testing, with companies also receiving notices for batch approval verification. Officials have unequivocally stated that no manufacturer or seller found compromising consumer health will be spared.

Demonstrating the broad scope of this initiative, the inspection teams have also extended their sampling efforts to major food chains including KFC and McDonald’s, along with other eateries in the district. Dr. Gaurav Chhabra, Food Safety Officer, emphasized that even large brands are under scrutiny, as consumer trust is directly linked to product quality and safety.

This current drive follows previous actions; in August, two samples of ‘Shweta’ brand ghee collected from Shriram Trading Company in Bhadra Bazaar failed quality tests. Investigations revealed the firm operated without a valid license, and the Karnal-based ghee company disavowed the seized products. A case against the firm’s proprietor is pending a final report.

Looking ahead, Dr. Chhabra affirmed that the sampling campaign would be further intensified to guarantee the quality of all dairy products sold in Sirsa. The department also plans to conduct awareness drives for street vendors, providing them with necessary departmental certifications and crucial information to ensure compliance and public health safety.
