Munger, Bihar – In a significant crackdown on illicit liquor trade, Munger police successfully intercepted a large consignment of country-made alcohol in Hemzapur on Diwali, seizing 275 liters of the contraband. The operation, launched on a confidential tip-off, underscores the police’s unwavering vigilance against illegal activities even during festive seasons.
According to police sources, officers established a strategic cordon along the Singhia Mangadh Road near a bridge, anticipating the movement of smugglers. As the perpetrators approached, they were swiftly surrounded by the police team. Enraged by the sudden intervention, the smugglers reportedly attempted to assault the officers to evade capture. However, the alert police force promptly foiled their aggressive tactics, securing the six sacks containing the illicit liquor.
Station House Officer Neeraj Kumar confirmed the seizure, stating that Assistant Sub-Inspectors Rajiv Ranjan and Nirbhaya Kumar were instrumental in leading the field operation. While police successfully recovered the liquor and two bicycles from the scene, the smugglers, including two individuals on horseback, managed to flee under the cover of the ensuing chaos. A massive search operation has since been launched to apprehend the absconders. This substantial seizure has sent ripples of concern and panic through the network of illegal liquor traders across the region, signaling a stern warning from the authorities.
