Key Arrest in Satara Doctor Suicide Case Amid Rape, Harassment Allegations

Police have arrested Prashant Bankar, a landlord’s son, in the Satara doctor suicide case. The 28-year-old victim, Dr. Sampada Munde, accused Bankar of mental harassment and PSI Gopal Badane of rape in her suicide note. While Bankar is in custody, PSI Badane remains absconding. The victim’s family also alleges she faced pressure to falsify post-mortem reports, demanding justice.

Police in Satara have made a significant arrest in connection with the tragic suicide of a 28-year-old female doctor, whose death has sparked a serious investigation into allegations of rape and abetment. Prashant Bankar, identified as the son of the landlord of the doctor’s rented accommodation, was apprehended on Friday. He is accused of mentally harassing the victim, Dr. Sampada Munde, in alleged collusion with a police officer.

Dr. Munde, who worked at a government hospital in Phaltan and hailed from Beed district, was discovered deceased in a hotel room on Thursday night. Her suicide note, found etched on her palm, explicitly named Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Gopal Badane, accusing him of repeated sexual assault over a five-month period. The note also implicated Bankar for persistent mental torment and threats to evict her.

Satara District Police have registered a case against both PSI Badane and Prashant Bankar under sections pertaining to rape and abetment to suicide. While Bankar is now in custody, undergoing medical examinations, PSI Badane remains at large, prompting a wide-scale manhunt by authorities. Investigators suggest Bankar had close ties with the police officers implicated by Dr. Munde.

Adding a disturbing dimension to the case, the victim’s family has come forward with grave allegations. They claim Dr. Munde was subjected to intense political and police pressure to manipulate post-mortem reports. Her cousin revealed that she had previously attempted to complain to the Deputy Commissioner of Police about this coercion but her pleas went unheeded. The family is now vehemently demanding justice for Dr. Munde.
