Jamtara, Jharkhand – In a significant crackdown on rising vehicle thefts, Jamtara Police have successfully dismantled a sophisticated bike theft syndicate, arresting two alleged masterminds and recovering a cache of 12 stolen motorcycles. The operation has exposed an extensive criminal network believed to be operating across multiple districts, including Dhanbad, Deoghar, and Giridih, with suspected links stretching to other states for the illicit sale of stolen vehicles.
Addressing a press conference, Jamtara Superintendent of Police, Rajkumar Mehta, confirmed the arrests, highlighting the police’s commitment to curbing organized crime. Acting on confidential intelligence, a special task force comprising Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Station In-charge Santosh Kumar Singh, Sub-Inspectors Alakhnath Choubey and Sunil Kumar Singh, along with armed personnel, was constituted. The team initiated a targeted vehicle inspection drive near Posoi Mor on Saturday evening.
During the operation, police intercepted a black Splendor Plus motorcycle. While one occupant, identified as Jainul Ansari, managed to flee, the driver, Maqsood Ansari alias Bahira, was apprehended on the spot. Intense interrogation led Maqsood to reveal the wider network, including the names of alleged buyers, Shahabuddin Ansari and Bakrid Miyan. Swift raids led to Shahabuddin Ansari’s arrest, though Bakrid Miyan remains at large. Based on the accused’s confessions, police successfully located and seized a total of 12 stolen motorcycles from various locations. Further investigation is underway to apprehend the absconders and unravel the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and inter-state connections.
