Jamui, Bihar – Four police personnel, including a Sub-Inspector, have been swiftly suspended in Jamui after a video allegedly showing them engaging in illegal extortion at a checkpost went viral. The incident, which occurred at the Katouna checkpost under Malaypur police station, prompted immediate action from Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishwajeet Dayal, who has ordered a departmental inquiry.
The widely circulated video captured the moments when an officer attempted to solicit money from a ‘Hyva’ truck driver. According to reports, the incident took place on the night of October 17, around 11 PM. When the driver refused to comply with the demand, a dispute ensued, and other police personnel present at the scene reportedly moved away, indicating a clear dereliction of duty.
Upon receiving information about the viral footage, the District Election Officer instructed Sub-Divisional Police Officer Satish Suman to investigate the matter. The probe confirmed the allegations of attempted illegal collection of money and noted that some police force members failed to maintain impartial conduct while on duty.
The police personnel identified and found guilty in the report include Sub-Inspector Sadanand Kumar, Constable Vijay Kumar, Constable Suvidha Kumar, and Lady Constable Bhagyshree Kumari. All four have been placed under immediate suspension, with their headquarters designated at the Police Centre Jamui during this period. A rigorous departmental investigation has also been initiated against them.
SP Vishwajeet Dayal issued a stern warning, stating that such actions severely tarnish the image of the police among the general public. He explicitly declared that any form of negligence or corruption would not be tolerated, particularly during the ongoing election period. The SP directed all police personnel deployed at checkposts to perform their duties with utmost impartiality and integrity, stressing that maintaining public trust is the highest priority for the police in an electoral environment.
