Bihar Politics: RJD Faces Significant Blow in Sheikhpura as Former District President Aligns with JDU, Shaking Up Electoral Dynamics on Two Key Seats

By Oct 22, 2025

In a major political shift in Sheikhpura, RJD’s former district president, Vijay Kumar Yadav, has defected to the JDU with his prominent supporters. Citing a lack of respect for dedicated workers under Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership, Yadav’s move is poised to significantly impact the electoral landscape in the Sheikhpura and Barbigha assembly constituencies, potentially altering the Mahagathbandhan’s prospects and bolstering the NDA’s position ahead of crucial elections.

Sheikhpura is witnessing a surge in political activity as the electoral season intensifies. In a significant development for Bihar politics, Vijay Kumar Yadav, the former district president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and a seasoned party leader, has officially joined the Janata Dal (United) along with a substantial number of his supporters.

Yadav’s defection, which occurred in Patna in the presence of JDU minister Ashok Chaudhary, sends ripples through the local political fabric. A resident of Bihata village in Sadar block, Yadav’s departure is anticipated to directly influence the electoral equations in both the Sheikhpura and Barbigha assembly constituencies, potentially complicating the Mahagathbandhan’s prospects.

Elaborating on his decision, Vijay Kumar Yadav expressed profound dissatisfaction with the current state of the RJD. He stated that after considerable contemplation, he concluded, “Today’s RJD is not Lalu ji’s RJD.” Yadav explicitly accused Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership of disrespecting diligent party workers and creating an environment where their contributions are unvalued. He was joined in this move by Bachchu Yadav and over two dozen other key figures, underscoring the breadth of his influence.

Known to be a close associate of former minister Rajballabh Yadav, Vijay Kumar Yadav has pledged his full support to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates in both Sheikhpura and Barbigha. Confidently, he asserted that the NDA is poised to form the next government in Bihar with an overwhelming majority, further solidifying the impact of his high-profile switch.
