Anand Vihar Namo Bharat Station Achieves Prestigious IGBC Platinum Rating for Green Building Excellence

By Nov 15, 2025

The Anand Vihar Namo Bharat Station has been awarded the highest IGBC Platinum Rating, a testament to its groundbreaking commitment to sustainable construction and environmental stewardship. This recognition highlights the station’s superior performance in energy efficiency, water conservation, and eco-friendly practices, including extensive use of solar power and rainwater harvesting. Operated by NCRTC, the station sets a new benchmark for green infrastructure, aiming for 70% renewable energy reliance.

In a significant stride towards sustainable urban development, the Anand Vihar Namo Bharat Station in Delhi has been honored with the coveted Platinum Rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). This prestigious award, the highest certification under the IGBC’s Green Certification program, acknowledges the station’s exemplary commitment to environmental sustainability and pioneering green building practices.

Operated by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the Anand Vihar underground station underwent a rigorous evaluation across six critical categories: site selection, water efficiency, energy efficiency, material conservation, indoor environmental quality, and innovation. The station’s outstanding performance in each of these areas secured its place at the pinnacle of green infrastructure.

NCRTC has integrated a host of eco-friendly features into the station’s design and operation. These include prioritizing low-carbon emission construction techniques, deploying energy-efficient systems, implementing robust rainwater harvesting mechanisms, and maximizing natural ventilation. Furthermore, the development of green landscaping beneath the viaduct actively contributes to reducing the station’s overall carbon footprint.

Demonstrating a forward-thinking approach, NCRTC officials have outlined an ambitious target: to meet approximately 70 percent of the total energy requirements through renewable sources. A substantial plan to generate 15 megawatts of solar power is underway, with 4.7 megawatts already operational. This initiative underscores NCRTC’s broader vision, which includes registering all major Namo Bharat project facilities – depots, stations, and receiving sub-stations – with the IGBC, thereby establishing a new benchmark for environmentally conscious public transport infrastructure across the nation.
